3rd Annual Chapter Business Partea It's hard to believe another year has gone by! It is that time again for our annual chapter business meeting. Prepare your favorite cup of tea, then hop on a brief Zoom meeting to chat about chapter finances, upcoming events, and more. September 21-22, 2024
Jazz Harp Weekend with Cindy Horstman We are thrilled to bring jazz harpist Cindy Horstman to town for an incredible weekend this fall! Saturday, September 21, NHS members are invited to sign up for lessons with Cindy (lessons are $50 for 30 minutes / $90 for 60 minutes). Sunday, September 22, join us for two FREE workshops (1:30 PM and 3:00 PM) and a free jazz harp concert featuring Cindy at 7:00 PM. All events take place at Belmont University's McAfee Concert Hall. This weekend is made possible in part by a grant from the American Harp Society. Please fill out our interest form for lesson sign up and workshop participation. |

Indie singer-songwriter and harpist Mikaela Davis returns to Nashville this May. Davis earned her degree in harp performance at the Crane School of Music, and has molded her classical music training to create an original and genre-bending catalog that weaves together 60s pop-soaked melodies, psychedelia and driving folk rock. We are thrilled to have local sound healer Milly Roze host a sound bath for our chapter! Align your mind and body during this guided group sound bath meditation. The frequencies from her crystal singing bowls help calm your nervous system and assist with healing energy. After the sound bath, join us for a cup of tea and our annual business meeting where we'll discuss the past year and upcoming plans for the chapter.

NHS member Kate Rogers will be performing with the US Air Force Band this fall! This FREE show will host a rare and exciting opportunity to hear great patriotic music and broadway classics, as well as celebrate our veterans. Rogers will perform three shows in Tennessee. but catch her Nashville show on October 20! Event information here.

Nashville-based harpist Clara Warford has competed in numerous national and international competitions and has performed in masterclasses for harpists such as Skaila Kanga, Chantal Mathieu, and Anneleen Lenaerts. In 2017, she was selected as principal harpist for the National Youth Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree from The Juilliard School in 2021. Event information here.

Veronika Lemishenko Concert

Mark your calendars for June 18 to hear Ukrainian harpist Veronika Lemishenko perform here in Nashville! This concert will feature traditional music of Ukraine. Lemishenko acts as artistic director of the ‘Glowing Harp’ competition and festival (Kharkiv, Ukraine) and is a Board of Directors member of the World Harp Congress. She has been a prize-winner at international harp festivals in Wales, France, Spain, Ukraine, Czech Republic, and more. Lemishenko is also currently the cover harpist on the May-June 2023 issue of Harp Column magazine. Read her interview here.
Although this concert is free to attend, it is requested to bring a love offering that will go to The Veronika Lemishenko Charitable Foundation which provides financial assistance to volunteer organizations, medical institutions, animal shelters in Kharkiv, Ukraine and other Ukrainian cities, as well as targeted assistance to Ukrainian victims of the war. Please let us know if you plan to attend, and we’ll put together a location at the church for our group to meet up. Hope to see you there! |
FREE CONCERT! We would like to invite you to NHS member Licia Jaskunas' performance with the Nashville Symphony ON US! All active members this term are eligible to sign up to join us Friday, October 28 at 8 PM to hear Licia perform the Mozart Flute & Harp Concerto. The symphony will also perform Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique.” This opportunity is FREE for active members. If you aren't a member or would like to bring a friend or partner with you, we have secured a fabulous rate of $29 per person.

The Cultural Arts Committee presents harpist Parker Ramsay performing his own widely-acclaimed transcription for harp of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. A native of Nashville, Parker began harp studies at a young age and at 16 moved to the UK after being awarded an organ scholarship to King’s College. He pursued graduate studies in keyboards at Oberlin Conservatory and then modern harp at The Juilliard School. Ramsay will be performing Sunday, April 3 at 4:00 pm at Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville. |

Corrective Exercise Workout We are looking forward to working with Angela McCuiston—fitness trainer and owner of Music Strong, a business that specializes in personal fitness training for musicians. Angela, a professional flutist and member of the 313th Army Band, has developed exercises and workouts tailored to what instrument you play. She also took harp lessons while in college and is well aware of all the problem areas that harpists face. We are excited to hear her advice and learn her corrective exercises tailored for harpists! After a tough year and a half, we are treating our members to a day of relaxation with a summer spa social! Harpist and licensed massage therapist, Katherine Hill, will be providing chair massages, as well as a presentation on self-massage you can do at home for harpist problem areas (forearms, hands, etc). After your massage, visit the nail station! The owners from Christy Nails in Brentwood will be providing nail trimming, buffing, clear coats, and more. Light refreshments will also be provided. Our NHS officers look forward to meeting you there!

Around the Sun Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021 at 2:00pm CT on Zoom Franklin, TN based harpist Kirsten Agresta Copely will perform original works and discuss producing her music. Her new album “Around the Sun” has recently earned awards and recognition on New Age Music charts. Kirsten is a harpist, arranger, and multi-genre composer.
